Connecting DbVisualizer to the Timbr Knowledge Graph

  1. To begin, please download and install DbVisualizer from here:

    https://www.dbvis.com/download/

    and download the Timbr JDBC jar:

    https://wp-functions.s3.amazonaws.com/hive-jdbc-2.3.9-standalone.jar

Next, open DbVisualizer application and go to Tools and click on Driver Manager.

  1. Once the window opens, locate and right click on Hive and click on Create User Driver from Template.

  1. After the User Driver opens, change the name of the drive to timbr.

4. Next, select the existing artifact and delete it by clicking on the -, then, click on the +, select Add Files and add the Timbr JDBC you downloaded at the beginning and click to open.

  1. Now that you have the updated jar file, go to the main window toolbar, and click on Create new database connection.

Search for timbr and double-click it. Once the Timbr tab opens, change the following parameters:

  1. Under the Database section:

A. Change the setting format from Server Info to Database URL and B. Enter the following JDBC URL in the Database URL:

jdbc:hive2://\<hostname>:\<port>/\<ontology_name>;transportMode=http

Make sure to change the following according to your configuration:

A. \<hostname> = the hostname or IP of your Timbr instance B. \<port> = the port of the Timbr instance C. \<ontology_name> = the ontology you want to load

  1. Under the Authentication section, fill in the following:

A. Database Userid = token (the actual word, not your personal token) B. Database Password = \<your_personal_token> (tk_123456789.....)

  1. Click on Connect at the bottom of the window.

Next, DbVisualizer will load all the schemas. Allocate and expand the timbr schema and expend the Tables. You will get a list of all the tables together with Timbr concepts.

4. Right click any concept and select Open in a new tab. Once the tab is open, go to References and DbVisualizer will load the ERD according to the relationships of the selected concept.

To visualize the entire ontology, right-click on the timbr schema, and click on Open in a new tab.

Once the new tab opens, click on References and DbVisualizer will load the entire ontology as an ERD.
